Why there is a need for change in the IT Consultation sphere…

What alternatives are there to IT Consultancy? And why is there a need for an alternative now?

The choice between strategically improving your IT landscape, implementing new services for customers, servicing current responsibilities, and trying to comply with constraints from the organisation you are working within is a challenge that most IT Directors and CTOs face. All whilst managing one of the most complex functions in any organisation and meeting growing expectations from consumers based on (what they believe are) comparative experiences of technology services in their personal lives from the likes of Amazon, Microsoft, Google, and Apple.

In almost all clients, the number of resources is finite, so focus is critical to the successful delivery of an IT service. But, almost every person in IT and the organisation could have a different perspective on where is best to spend that resource to get the best results and drive the value of IT for the organisation.

To navigate this, expensive consultants are usually required to determine the most critical need and make recommendations about the best way to move forward.

The reason for this predicament is that data is sparse and is often approached in silo to the rest of the organisation so no one person holds the full picture. This data is also often sprawled across multiple different spreadsheets, applications, and databases so it’s time-consuming and expensive for one person or team to gather all this information themselves. Yet, having this holistic perspective of why technology is needed, how resource intensive the IT service is to deliver, how effectively IT services are being managed against the pressures from the organisation, and what the consumers really think of the services being provided is key to getting any successful IT change project off the ground.

This is where CoPerceptuo comes in.

CoPerceptuo provides the ability to collaboratively collect knowledge from across an organisation and form insights that enable decision-making. It will bring together capability analysis, consumer feedback, resource cost of ownership and map an organisation’s use of technology through collaboration.

This information can then be applied to identify application functionality overlap and use, predict the complexity of moving to Cloud, identify security risks, and define which technologies are ensuring or derailing corporate strategy; all without the need for engaging expensive consultants.

But why now?

We asked Andy Shuttleworth to comment on why CoPerceptuo could be in demand more than ever:

"In difficult economic times, such as those we are facing currently, the decision of cost vs quality of service delivery can become incredibly difficult for organisations. Cutting budgets (and services entirely) doesn't necessarily increase service value. We find it actually tends to have the opposite effect, where resources, particularly people, get spread more thinly across a wider range of services that in turn means the service suffers. And not just in the short term either, the long-term effects can be catastrophic, increasing legacy, complexity and effort to manage the IT service, over time eroding the quality and value of the IT services provided.

We believe CoPerceptuo will enable customers to get a different perspective on how best to measure, gain insight and drive value from their IT services for consumers and get to the root cause of change blockers.

We’re excited to be on the journey of creating this for the market and can’t wait to see it transform the way in which organisations potentially engage with consultancies in the future."
